Marilyn Monroe has, for generations, been a sex symbol. Marilyn was a self made woman who was constantly striving for improvement or perfection (what ever you want to call it) with every aspect of her entire life. This guide: will hopefully help you emulate her style & vibe, whilst not becoming a clone - because - individuality was a key component to Marilyn Monroe’s aura & essence.
(The Clothes) Marilyn Monroe knew how to dress - she could show off her figure whilst maintaining her modesty "A Women's Body Is Supposed To Be Shown; Not All Covered Up" Your first step in looking like Marilyn is going through your wardrobe and having a good sort out; sending to the charity shops any clothes Marilyn herself wouldn't have felt comfortable wearing in the public. When deciding what clothes to keep & what clothes to buy, remember this: Marilyn wore beige, brown, black, cream, forest green, red and white - sticking mostly to champagne colours - avoid all bright colours; her favourite store was Bloomingdales; her favourite designer was Emilio Pucci, her favourite shoe designer was Salvatore Ferragamo; Also, try to stock your wardrobe with the following:
A halter neck dress - Marilyn's most famous piece, known for its appearance in The Seven Year Itch
Strapless dresses
Dresses with sweetheart necklines - these two dress styles were Marilyn's favorites.
A white fur wrap - add a touch of glamour to any dress
Several pencil skirts, in different colors - this is the item of clothing Marilyn wore the most
Several sweaters - to wear with your pencil skirts, so make sure they match.
Peep-toe high-heeled shoes, in cream or white
A bullet bra - to really get her 50s 'sweater girl' look
Items made of polka-dot prints, or with bows on them
2(The Hair) Now you will look like a glamorous, 1950's screen-siren, but maybe not like Marilyn Monroe specifically. This can be sorted out with one simple snip - a Marilyn-esque hair-do! This will work best for people with well-balanced faces and features. If you do not have blonde hair, specifically golden blond, pay a professional stylist to dye it for you or use cassia. Marilyn herself wasn't a natural. Also, buy some hot rollers, if you don't already own any. Once you have gotten this sorted out, do this:
Get the hairdresser to give you a layered, shoulder length cut - ask for shorter layers at the front, and longer layers at the back. Alternatively, bring in a photograph of Marilyn Monroe to show them!
At home, after you've washed your hair, comb some gel mousse through it whilst it is damp, then section it off and blow-dry. If you have curly or frizzy hair, you may wish to give it a quick straighten, for an assuredly smooth do.
Once hair is dry, take it into sections again, and this time spray each section with spray gel, and set with the hot rollers. When you're ready to remove the rollers, brush your hair out in a forwards direction, and apply finish spray under your layers.
For extra bounce, flip your hair back and then work a bit of styling cream through it.
